Chennai, August 2007: WLCI Chennai recently organized a spectacular one-of-its-kind event - “Freedom 60” to commemorate India’s 60th year of Independence. The event which comprised of live creation of biggest greeting card took place in Spencer Plaza, No. 769, Anna Salai, Chennai 02. Inaugurating the event was Mr. Nanchil Kumaran, Commissioner of Police, Chennai whose presence appreciated this unique initiative of students from WLC College, Chennai. Five of the chosen students from the Advertising & Graphic Design department namely Ponnu George, Soumya Vregese, Ajay, Vinoth and Manjunath under the guidance of their Department Head Mr. Immanuel Robinson, created this 60ft tall greetings card! The innovative greeting card is expected to be a direct entry in the Limca Book of records 2008. The unique fact about the creation of the card was that this was the first time that marble art technique was applied on a 60 ft high vinyl sheet. Marble art technique is normally used in printing hand made paper bags and greeting cards. |

Chennai, 14th November’07: Adding a special touch to the Children’s Day celebration the Design Department of WLC College Chennai organized a Drawing & Sketching Competition for the children of “Guild of Service School for the Handicapped” which is a home for differently abled children. The theme for the event was “Happiness Life”. A group of 50 bright, cheerful and excited children participated in the event. The Design students of WLC College Chennai under the guidance of Mr.Immanuel, HOD Design, WLC College Chennai, acted as mentors and counselors, who helped these special children to shed their inhibitions, overcome their deficiency and indulge with great vigor in creative splendor. The event came to an end with a prize distribution ceremony wherein the three best drawing was awarded and two consolation prizes were also given. At the end of the occasion their glowing faces of the children made the effort worthwhile and the WLCI team also accomplished their objective of adding happiness in the lives of these children. |

Chennai, November’07: Innovation and experimentation never stops at WLC College India (WLCI). Recently, seven bright, enthusiastic and talented design students of WLC College Chennai indulged in 6 hours of pure creative bliss and presented a caricature project that was brilliantly crafted. The event was held at WLCI’s Chennai campus. Saawan, a first year PGDVC student, created the Design Department logo. His work was awarded the “Best Caricature” award by the judges. Students tried their hand at water color painting and acrylic painting and each of them contributed two paintings out of which the best was selected and incorporated in a 60 feet long vinyl sheet under the guidance of Mr. Immanuel, HOD Design, WLC College Chennai. Beautiful artistic pieces were created using Photoshop images, special effect pictures, pastel drawings, acrylic paintings and water color paintings. The end result was testimony to the fact that hard work never goes to waste. The efforts put in by the entire team to enhance their creative skills by testing their talent is definitely worth appreciating and emulating. |

Chennai, 12th April ’08: School of Advertising & Graphic Design, WLC College India (Chennai) has done it yet again!!! The college, which has consistently worked to expose the youth to newer and more exciting career choices, organized an enthralling photography cum graphics competition titled “Photographix’08”. The grand finale of the competition which included a prize distribution ceremony and an exhibition was held on 12th April’08 in the college campus located at No 17, Murray’s Gate Road, Alwarpet, Chennai from 11am onwards. “Photographix’08” was an open competition for all. The college began accepting entries from 25th March’08 to 10th April’08. The contestants were told to send their entrees in size 8’*10’ based on the theme “Life is Design” along with a small write up on their photograph. Renowned cinematographer of the Tamil Film Industry, Mr.K.V.Anand, recipient of the national award for Best Cinematographer, attended the event as the Guest of Honor and presented awards to the three winners, namely AR. Lyndon Ambrosse, Senthil M, and Maniraaj. Absolute “must haves” for Gen Next - an Apple I pod shuffle, a mobile phone and an MP3 player was presented to the first, second and third winners respectively. |
